Pilgrim wants Independent Arbiter

ATTORNEY ANDREW PILGRIM is still not satisfied with the progress being made in the I’Akobi Maloney investigation.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION yesterday, Pilgrim said although the police had submitted a report to the Attorney-General, an independent body still should be summoned to handle any information regarding the case.

“It is all well and good to say that you have received this report from the police officers but all right-thinking members of any community must recognise that if one group of people do something which is called into question, these people cannot judge themselves.”

Attorney-General, Freundel Stuart said recently that he had received a report from the police and had handed the contents over to the Prime Minister and then Cabinet. However, Pilgrim, who was retained last month by the Maloney family, said it would be hard for the public to maintain confidence and trust in the Police Force if they were the ones to handle the information key to the case.

“There is very little that can come out of I’Akobi’s death if there is not an independent arbiter sitting and examining very closely the acts of those who were present when he died . . . from the time this happened somebody should have been commissioned to find out who was present, take individual officers, interview them so that the public can get a genuine and unbiased account.”

The DAILY NATION spoke to Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin yesterday and he said he wanted to make the public aware that the situation was being investigated but he also confirmed that he was still awaiting the final report from the police.

“I believe the Attorney-General would have received an interim report but this will be the final report and once I get it, I will send it off for judicial attention. In my position I don’t want to say a lot to prejudice whatever action is going to be taken,” he said.

Coroner Magistrate Faith Marshall Harris told the DAILY NATION yesterday she was not in a position to offer much comment but said: “I have not received the file as yet, but once I do, an inquest will be held and it is a public hearing.”

Since June 17, Maloney’s death has raised public concern about the circumstances surrounding what happened at Landlock, St Lucy, where police reported that the former engineer jumped over a cliff.

Autopsy reports have read that the cause of death was drowning, but the Maloney family continue to question the police’s report although the latter have denied any foul play, further stating that they at no time had physical contact with the former Barbados Exhibition winner.

Thanks for revealing your ideas. I’d also like to state that video games have been ever before evolving. Modern technology and inventions have helped create sensible and interactive games. These types of entertainment video games were not actually sensible when the real concept was first of all being used. Just like other designs of know-how, video games way too have had to develop via many many years. This is testimony towards fast growth of video games.
