Demands to Relevant Authorities

Rastafari Community of Barbados
July 2008

In pursuit of social justice and the elimination of further Rastafari profiling, we, the Rastafari Community of Barbados, clearly publish the following demands and collective interests:

  1. The police (peace) officers who were present at the scene during the death of the Late Ras Tacuma Maloney to be immediately relieved of their duties and powers with full (but paid) suspension pending the conclusion of an independent investigation, since this is reasonable, procedurally fair and proactively preventing the obstruction of justice;
  2. An independent and transparent investigation to be conducted by an unbiased team of regional or private investigators, since one senior officer (Assistant Commissioner) has already publicised a conclusive report following investigations thereby raising a conflict of interest and nullifying the credibility of further local police reports;
  3. A public reaffirmation of the roles and responsibilities of our honourable police men and women, especially those roles related to the protection and preservation of human rights, life and property without discrimination on grounds of race, place of origin, political opinions, colour, creed, sex or disability, since we need to set forth better conditions that inspire confidence, co-operation and support in our vital police-public relationship.
